toddling

I am learning a lesson from little man today...

He has decided to walk this afternoon. I say decided because he has known how to walk for a while now. He took his first few steps at least a month ago and a few more a couple weeks ago, but he has been too timid to just go for it. I think this is common for infants. I am so excited that he is finally doing what I have known he could do for some time. I am excited that he will more fully enjoy this summer as he can run around outside and play with his cousins and friends. I am excited for all the new things he will discover since he will see things from a different point of view now.

Makes me wonder...how often do we hold back from doing something we are totally capable of doing just because we are little scared? Do we lack the faith to do what we were created to do? Physically, we are created to walk, at the most basic level. What else were we created to do? Emotionally, spiritually, intellectually?

I have been a little intimidated by starting school, and yet I know I am studying to do what I was created to do. I have to remind myself of that sometimes, and Holy Spirit reminds me often, too. Most great and life changing things take faith. When you do what you are created to do, you feel truly alive, and for some that is terrifying because it's something they don't feel often, but it's good to be just outside of our comfort zone and looking to Christ for for comfort, strength, and rest.

I have gently been encouraging little man to walk, without wanting to push him until he was ready. What is Holy Spirit gently nudging us to do? What is that first step for us that takes just a little faith, but will cause us to experience Him and all He has in store for us more fully? Bring us into new and better relationships with those around us? Help us see things from a new and better perspective? Take a step of faith into what you were created to do...

And for your enjoyment...
